Engagement Strategies That Increase Processing and Retention for Special Education Students

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

This session will explore brain research related to attention span, cognitive processing, and student engagement. Research consistently shows that student attention is brief and must be re-engaged frequently through structured interaction.
Participants will learn how to:
Increase student processing opportunities every 30–60 seconds
Use whiteboards, partner discussions, and structured responses to check for understanding
Reduce passive listening and increase accountable student talk
Embed brain-based engagement routines into daily instruction
Ensure that students with dyslexia and other learning needs are actively processing—not merely present
The session emphasizes practical, repeatable structures teachers can implement immediately, even within mandated curriculum frameworks.
