The School Behavioral Threat Assessment Training provided by the Texas School Safety Center and delivered by Region I Education Service Center equips school personnel with the knowledge and practical skills needed to identify, assess, and respond to student behaviors that may pose a risk to school safety. Grounded in research-based practices and aligned with Texas requirements, this training emphasizes a proactive, multidisciplinary approach focused on early identification, prevention, and student support. Participants learn to distinguish between transient and substantive threats, recognize warning signs along the pathway to targeted violence, and apply a structured decision-making process to guide appropriate interventions. Through scenario-based learning and discussion, attendees strengthen collaboration, improve documentation practices, and build confidence in contributing to their campus or district threat assessment team—ultimately supporting safer, more responsive school environments.

This training is open to Region I School Systems, open-enrollment charter schools, law enforcement, and any state agency that serves on an identified Threat Assessment team. Because this training is mandated by law, all School Behavioral Threat Assessment team members must complete it either in person or virtually. Vendors and contractors are not permitted to register for this training.
