This is an introductory course that provides educators with an overview of the field of special education, gifted and talented, emergent bilinguals, dyslexia, and Section 504, including its history, laws, and best practices. Candidates will explore foundational policies such as IDEA, FAPE, LRE, and the ARD/IEP process, and gain insight into eligibility categories, instructional strategies, and legal responsibilities. This course supports mastery of TExES domains related to legal/ethical guidelines, assessment, and instructional practices for diverse learners.
