Thinking about Reading: Teaching Comprehension Strategies in 1st Grade (Valley View ISD_ONLY)

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

This session will equip participants with practical instructional tools to strengthen reading comprehension in the primary classroom. Teachers will explore effective comprehension strategies through modeled think-alouds, the use of graphic organizers, and opportunities for students to make meaningful text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world connections. Educators will examine how these practices support students in navigating increasingly complex texts while building understanding across lessons and topics. This session aligns to RBIS 2 – Complex Text by helping teachers scaffold comprehension of grade-level text and to RBIS 3 – Knowledge Coherence by promoting intentional connections across reading experiences.
