This professional development prepares resident teachers, mentor teachers, cooperating teachers, host teachers, and site supervisors to effectively coach and support teacher candidates through research-based mentoring and co-teaching practices. Participants will explore the Gradual Release of Responsibility model and the seven co-teaching approaches: One Teach, One Observe; One Teach, One Assist; Station Teaching; Parallel Teaching; Supplemental Teaching; Alternative Teaching; and Team Teaching.

Aligned with 19 TAC §§228.91(e) and 228.95(a)(3), this training provides scientifically based instruction in coaching, mentoring, and co-teaching strategies to support candidate development, instructional effectiveness, and educator retention. Host teachers will gain the required training in co-teaching and mentoring practices necessary to support residency candidates through the gradual release of instructional responsibility.
