Returning a student to school or community after an intensive intervention, hospitalization, or out-of-placement experience is not a single event — it is a process that requires careful planning, cross-system coordination, and a deep understanding of the student's clinical profile. This session equips school psychologists and behavioral health professionals with the knowledge and tools to lead effective reintegration at Tier 3.
The first half of the session focuses on the reintegration planning process: what successful return to the school and community environment requires from the student, the family, the receiving team, and the broader system. Participants will examine common barriers to successful reintegration — including stigma, fragmented communication between clinical and educational settings, unaddressed sensory and physiological needs, and inadequately modified environments — and explore evidence-informed strategies for addressing each.
The second half turns to the psychological evaluation as the cornerstone of Tier 3 planning. Participants will develop fluency in reading and interpreting psychological reports, moving beyond diagnostic labels to extract the functional data most relevant to educational and behavioral planning. The session provides a practical framework for translating evaluation findings — including cognitive profile, executive functioning, processing strengths and weaknesses, behavioral observations, and clinical impressions — into concrete, implementable accommodations, supports, and intervention targets within the school and community context.

Special attention is given to the functional components of the report: understanding what a student's profile means for how they learn, regulate, communicate, and relate — and how that understanding should directly shape the reintegration plan, the IEP or 504, and the daily supports put in place by teachers, counselors, and support staff.
