2017 REGION ONE AUTISM CONFERENCE - Drawing a Blank: Improving Comprehension for Readers on the Autism Spectrum

This workshop will focus on readers with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) who decode well, but do not understand what they read. The material can be applied to readers across the spectrum, and may also help struggling readers who do not have ASD. Participants will understand how the features of ASD affect comprehension, identify more than 30 skills to teach explicitly, and learn evidence-based and promising comprehension strategies to help readers who struggle to understand what they read. The presenter for this workshop will be Emily Iland, the award-winning author of the book "Drawing a Blank: Improving Comprehension for Readers on the Autism Spectrum.
