Explicit Instruction of Fiction: Grades 1-2

Engage in a process that incorporates the features of effective instruction to explicitly teach fiction that impacts student achievement. Explicitly teach academic vocabulary for the genre through direct instruction and activities. Learn to select vocabulary from the text that may hinder student understand and make decisions on when to apply strategies for vocabulary development. Learn strategies that require students to think deeper for each reading of the text including setting a purpose by using a Comprehension Purpose Question (CPQ).
