MDR Overview for Administrators and Assessment Personnel: Your Guide to Conducting Manifestation Determination Reviews for IDEA- and 504-eligible Students (Virtual)
This training will review the discipline process for students with disabilities and the role of assessment professionals and administrators in the process. Topics will include discussing the legal requirements for discipline of a student with disabilities, reviewing case law and other federal and state guidance documents about discipline and MDRs, as well as learning best practices to conduct an appropriate manifestation determination review (MDR).
Participants will be able to:
(1) Determine whether a student’s disciplinary removal constitutes a change of placement;
(2) Understand the procedures for addressing the student’s behavior if the disciplinary consequence was or was not a change of placement; and
(3) Conduct a sound and comprehensive manifestation determination review.
