This workshop is part 1 of a 4 part series that will come later in the school year. This session is designed to introduce participants to the 14 teaching practices for enhancing learning outlined in Peter Liljedahl’s book, Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics. He recommends a gradual implementation of the practices, so that’s how this series is designed. Do you strive to help students go beyond rote memorization and repetitive calculations? Many traditional classroom norms and habits actually enable “non-thinking” student behavior. In this session, we’ll set the stage for transforming your classroom into one focused on learning-centered, student-owned deep mathematical thinking and learning. At the heart of Liljedahl’s vision lies the concept of the “Thinking Classroom” – a dynamic ecosystem where mathematical discourse thrives and students engage in productive struggle. It’s not just a set of strategies. It’s a comprehensive approach to building a classroom environment where thinking takes center stage. Each session will highlight different strategies from Peter's book. All participants will receive their initial book at Toolkit 1

Our ESC Collaboration has been putting Texas school-based SLPs first since 2012. We offer top quality webinars with highly respected presenters in the field of communication. Our interactive webinar series has proven to be an excellent source of continuing education for speech-language pathologists and other school staff. Join us in learning all year long through eleven exceptional online opportunities. Reinforce your current knowledge and add new tools to your tool box. In collaboration with ALL twenty Education Service Centers, we deliver highly relevant topics that impact SLPs every day; all conveniently accessed from your location. Writing, beyond handwriting, is a complex communication process that is learned and shaped over time. It involves the use of text and allows for improved self-expression, increased independence, and active participation in the community. It is an expected outcome of our current education system yet many students with disabilities, especially those with complex communication needs, have limited access to writing tools, writing opportunities, and writing expectations. This session will highlight the importance of including access to the letters of the alphabet in combination with other symbol sets when developing communication systems, highlight alternative writing tools, and it will provide simple strategies that can be applied early and across settings to promote long-term writing expectations and writing habits to support communication.

Empower Your Students with multiple disabilities through Active Learning! Are you an educator working in an adaptive learning environment, supporting individuals who are functioning at the fundamental levels of learning? If so, this transformative 4-day workshop is designed just for you! Active Learning is a research-based approach developed by Dr. Lilli Nielsen, specifically for learners who function developmentally below 48 months—regardless of their chronological age. This approach is especially effective for students with significant physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges, including those with cerebral palsy, visual impairments, autism, hearing impairments, and multiple disabilities. Many learners with complex access needs often become passive observers in their own world, relying on others for interaction. Active Learning changes that! This approach empowers students to take charge of their learning by creating environments that spark curiosity, encourage independence, and promote meaningful engagement. Join us to discover simple yet powerful strategies that will transform how your students explore, interact, and thrive! Day 1: Principles part 1 Day 2: Principles part 2 Day 3 Assessment, Implementation, Documentation Day 4: Materials, Equipment, and make and take!
