Active Learning for Students with Multiple Disabilities: Documentation

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

This session focuses on the following principles of Active Learning:
Documentation:
Participants will learn:
How to use the Functional Scheme to document skills acquisition in your student.
How to document progress in IEP goals and objectives for students using Active Learning.
How to document student activity in specific Active Learning environments.
How to develop a student portfolio for students using an Active Learning approach.
Participants are encouraged to bring a completed Functional Scheme Assessment to be able to develop appropriate PLAAFPs and Goals for their students who are functioning at the Active Learning level.

Active Learning is an instructional approach developed by Dr. Lilli Nielsen of Denmark. It is an instructional strategy for individuals who are blind, visually impaired, deaf/blind, developmentally functioning below 48 months old regardless of chronological age, and learners with significant physical, cognitive, and emotional delays.

Individuals with multiple disabilities (including cerebral palsy, visual impairment, cognitive impairment, autism, hearing impairment, etc.) are at great risk from developing reliance on others to interact with the world around them. Active Learning recognizes that every child/adult with special needs is unique and emphasizes simple ways to change the environment so that a child becomes an active participant and an engaged learner.
