Integrating Science & Engineering Practices into the New Science TEKS

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

This workshop is designed for science teachers seeking to align their instruction with the updated Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards. It focuses on integrating science and engineering practices (SEPs) and the recurring themes and concepts (RTCs) that are emphasized in the new science TEKS. Participants will review hands-on activities and engage in collaborative discussions to deepen their understanding of how to apply these practices and themes in the classroom, fostering a more inquiry-based and interdisciplinary approach to science education.

Key topics covered in this workshop include:

- Understanding the shifts in the new TEKS and how they promote SEPs & RTCs.
- Strategies to embed SEPs across different grade levels and disciplines.
- Exploring the RTCs like patterns and cause and effect relationships.
- Developing and implementing lesson plans that incorporate SEPs and recurring themes to enhance student engagement and critical thinking.
- Sharing best practices for assessment and fostering scientific literacy in students.

Teachers will leave this workshop equipped with practical tools, resources, and lesson ideas to create a dynamic and standards-aligned science classroom that nurtures the next generation of problem solvers and innovators.
