Understanding Dysgraphia: Orthographic Processing, Graphomotor Function, and Comprehensive Evaluation Practices

This professional development, provided by Dr. Mertie "Mi Mi" Gomez will facilitate a better understanding of best practices for evaluation and identification of SLD Dysgraphia, including the underlying causes of dysgraphia, orthographic processing and graphomotor function. Participants will understand how to conduct and write up a comprehensive dysgraphia evaluation, considering the updated Dyslexia Handbook (2024). In addition, this training will include a discussion of case studies using formal and informal data.

Dr. Gomez is a retired Associate Professor and program coordinator for the M.Ed. in Special Education (Educational Diagnostician) at Sam Houston State University with 39 years working with students with disabilities. Before becoming a faculty member, she worked as a special education teacher, educational diagnostician, and Senior Manager of Evaluation. Dr. Gomez specializes in assessment best-practices, report writing, and dyslexia assessment/identification. She consults with districts throughout Texas on matters related to assessment and disability identification and teaches as an adjunct faculty member.
