Vision Impairment Professionals Cohort: Access Is Not Accidental: Beyond the Code: Fostering Literacy, Social Skills, and Independence with KaiBot Rob

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

Robotics can be far more than a coding activity—when designed with accessibility in mind, it becomes a powerful instructional tool for students who are blind, visually impaired, or deafblind. This session explores how KaiBots can support learning well beyond basic programming by providing tactile, multisensory experiences that reinforce literacy, social interaction, orientation and mobility (O&M), and STEM concepts.
Participants will examine how KaiBots can be used to strengthen braille readiness, build communication and collaboration skills, and create meaningful opportunities for students to practice independence within the Expanded Core Curriculum. Practical classroom strategies, activity examples, and implementation ideas will demonstrate how robotics can be integrated into instruction in ways that are engaging, accessible, and developmentally appropriate.
This session is designed for educators and service providers working with students who are blind, visually impaired, or deafblind. It highlights how accessible robotics can promote confidence, problem-solving, teamwork, and real-world learning experiences that extend far beyond coding.
