So You’re Teaching Ag Mechanics, Now What?

Teaching Ag Mechanics can feel overwhelming, especially with the wide range of skills and safety practices students need to learn. This session will provide practical tips, tricks, and proven strategies to set your program up for success. Participants will gain insight into a classroom timeline developed over nearly three decades of experience, along with simple yet effective ways to keep students engaged and actively involved in the learning process. Whether you’re new to teaching Ag Mechanics or looking to refine your approach, you’ll leave with tools you can put to use immediately.

Led by Master Teacher: Monty Main

Monty Main brings 28 years of teaching experience to his role as an Agricultural Science teacher at Gilmer High School (Gilmer ISD), where he specializes in Ag Engineering and Ag MEchanics courses. He is an AWS Inspector, AWS Certified Welder (D9.1 & D1.1), API Certified, and CWB Certified, with extensive expertise in welding and mechanical applications.

Monty’s classroom is built on structure, engagement, and real-world skills, and he enjoys sharing strategies that have helped him sustain a highly successful Ag Mechanics program over the years. Outside of school, he is a blacksmith and is currently teaching his youngest daughter how to make jewelry as a potential business venture.

A fun fact about Monty: his family played a role in founding Anderson County and naming Palestine as the county seat.
