In the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), schools are required to have a process for identifying students in need of additional intervention and support to access Universal core instruction. When used as intended, evidence-based intervention and support strategies are provided within the regular classroom and to individual students, including those with disabilities, to reduce academic and behavioral gaps. This overview will allow you to reflect on the current practices in place for Response to Intervention (RtI) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and how consistent progress monitoring drives data-based decisions. This workshop will identify non-negotiable components of the MTSS process per TEA Statewide Guidelines and identify the common trends that hinder the work getting done. A multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) is a proactive and preventative framework that integrates data and instruction to maximize student achievement while supporting students' academic and behavioral needs. The MTSS framework is comprised of four essential components: screening, progress monitoring, multi-level prevention system, and data-based decisions. This training will support the MTSS team as they conduct regular data meetings. A deep dive into the universal screening results will guide instructional leaders and teachers into grade-level and classroom-level decisions to determine intervention and support. Individual data will be reviewed to determine student progress and the effectiveness of the interventions and supports provided. This workshop is primarily for Henderson ISD-Wylie Elementary.

For gifted students to demonstrate academic growth, they must be challenged, but what if they refuse to accept that challenge? Students may not realize the influence effort has on their success with difficult tasks. Participants will study various approaches for reinforcing effort and providing recognition to enhance students’ learning and encourage them to take educational risks. This course is based on Marzano’s nine instructional strategies. This workshop satisfies the state requirement for the annual G/T 6-hour update. We discover ways to better meet the needs of our increasingly diverse student population as we gain a greater understanding of how the human brain learns. By looking for ways to differentiate instruction and assessment approaches, we may be able to help more students achieve their full potential. Based on research on best educational practices associated with differentiation and brain-compatible instruction. This workshop satisfies the state requirement for the annual G/T 6-hour update. We need our students to grow individually, but how do we get it all done? We will explore evidence-based practices for instruction, intervention, and automaticity of basic/essential skills in mathematics. When routines and procedures are carefully taught, modeled, and established in the classroom, children know what's expected of them and how to do certain things on their own. One effective way to differentiate learning is to balance large group instruction with the use of small, flexible groups. Through small groups, teachers can accommodate all learners by varying the size, materials, tasks, purposes, and support level for each group. In small groups, everyone is engaged, and everyone has a voice. Students can sometimes learn more from each other than they can from the teacher. Strategies will be shared to use during small group lessons.

Much of the thinking done in schools today emphasizes the skills of analysis - finding the best and correct answer. However, there is another kind of thinking that focuses on exploring ideas, generating possibilities, and looking for many right answers rather than just one. Explore strategies to help students learn to think creatively to solve problems. This online course is offered at no charge to all Region 7 ESC districts and charters through a grant. This workshop satisfies the state requirement for the annual G/T 6-hour update.

Best practices to increase student success should include recruiting, inducting, and retaining high-quality educators; however, these best practices are often overshadowed until it is “staffing season”. In this session, school leaders will identify actions to make the highest impact on supporting new teachers and how to ensure growth for both alternatively certified teachers and those who are traditionally certified. Guidance will be given on how to create or revitalize a district’s teacher mentor program specific to their teachers’ needs. TEA’s Effective Schools Framework will be one of the resources referenced for developing a practical, operative plan in conjunction with the three-year Learning Hierarchy for Teachers (Harris, 2016).

When the current inclusive provisions and supports are not meeting the needs of a student (whether academic, behavioral, or social/emotional) that student may require other levels of support. Typically, about 20% of students require targeted intervention (Tier 2). Intensive intervention (Tier 3) is designed for students who demonstrate an inadequate response to universal and targeted intervention, typically about 5% or less. Schools have different ways of conceptualizing and implementing intensive interventions. We will present evidence-based strategies that are typically used at each level of intensity, highlight how to track the progress of student goals, and identify what data must be reviewed to determine Tier movement. TEA's intentions of implementation will be discussed and reviewed. Attendees will be able to participate in this webinar in their district via the Zoom link provided in the registration confirmation email.

Do we intervene, accommodate or modify? We all learn differently and it is hard sometimes to know the difference. Today's classroom instruction should include several common practices that are designed to meet the needs of all learners. Schools have an increased emphasis on the use of rigorous evidence-based research in guiding instructional decisions. How do we support school improvement and improve outcomes for students when there isn't a "one size fits all" program? This workshop will challenge your current practices as we deep dive into the evidenced-based research that supports inclusion, the multi-tiered student support team, differentiation, removing barriers, accommodating students with disabilities, documentation, and much more. Turn the end of the year into an opportunity for students to demonstrate and reflect on their learning. It’s easy to slip into the “review for test” mode at the end of the year, but what if you could turn the last days of the year into cumulative, student-led projects that can act as summative assessments and pull a semester’s worth of learning together in one project?

Classroom teachers struggle to find ways to connect with modern-day students. Discover the power of utilizing Relationship-Centered Learning (RCL) before engaging in lesson-based curriculums. RCL is a research-based approach designed to teach educators how to build, strengthen, support, and sustain a foundation of relationships utilizing practical tools that take less than two minutes. This training will prepare educators to formulate a proactive connection plan that intentionally focuses on embedding relationship-building into the instructional day to create a moment of genuine connection between students and teachers. This workshop will cover Levels One and Two training, including the Capacity Building Toolbox (CBT) Protocol, Get To Know You (GTKY) Circles, and Differentiated Discipline. Participants who complete the three-day course will become Certified Specialists in Restorative Practices (CSRP). This is Day 1 of a 3-day workshop. Day 2 is on 5/11/2023, and Day 3 is on 5/12/2023.
