Structured Literacy: What We Teach

Structured Literacy teaching is systematic and cumulative. It requires direct teaching of concepts with continuous student-teacher interaction. All the structured literacy’s elements work together—phonology, sound-symbol, syllables, morphology, syntax, semantics. Structured literacy is a comprehensive approach to literacy instruction that research shows is effective for all students and essential for students who have difficulty with reading.
