Making Math Night Meaningful - Grades K-5

Educating our children requires a team effort, and building connections between families and schools is key to developing academic achievement for all children. Research has clearly indicated that there is a strong relationship between family engagement and student academic success. One way to build these connections is through Family Math Night events. Join us as we look at some first steps that get parents and kids actively engaged in fun, creative and unique, standards-based math activities. There will be special emphasis on the language of math and supporting second language learners. We will also explore how families communicating about math in a hands-on environment allows for a deeper understanding of important concepts and contributes to more powerful learning experiences. You will have an opportunity to begin planning your family math night and create one station activity. *Please contact Jane Tarr jtarr@esc7.net if you would like for this session to be customized to meet the needs of your campus family event.
