Progression of Math Manipulatives and Models in 4th and 5th Grades

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

There are various math manipulatives and models that are used in these important grade levels. Participants will engage with strategies for teaching multiplication facts to all learners. We will be using base ten blocks to go through the stages of concrete-representational without jumping immediately to the abstract standard algorithm with decimals. We will highlight manipulatives and strategies, such as using the number line for elapsed time and the use of Cuisenaire rods where appropriate in the 4th and 5th grades. We will look at the progression of manipulatives in the scope and sequence of the district and spend time using manipulatives to teach standards in these grade levels. This workshop is for Marshall ISD. If you are interested in this session for your campus please contact Heather Plaisance at hplaisance@esc7.net.
