Grounded in instructional expectations and language development practices, this session will highlight practical strategies that intentionally support language acquisition while honoring students’ cultural and linguistic assets. FAF 2026: We will explore musical and movement ideas and activities to use in the music room to celebrate diverse cultures and holidays in the school calendar. The goal is to leave with a cache of activities and songs to use directly in the music classroom in correlation with cultural celebrations and holidays. We will practice a number of these activities together, and attendees will leave with a handout that assists them in taking these activities back into the classroom. *Please note, the presenter serves a PK-3 campus, so most examples will be from that grade range; however, they can be scaled to a higher grade level. Inspired by artists like Leanne D'Aquino, participants will investigate the relationship between positive and negative space while building visually dynamic compositions. This lesson is highly adaptable for upper elementary through middle school and can scale up to high school. This supports standards related to composition, design, and creative process.(Grades 3-12)

An Introduction to Shakespeare

FAF 2026: Join The Texas Shakespeare Festival for an introduction to how to approach Shakespeare's text to make it come alive on stage. This session uses a Shakespeare sonnet as a hands-on exercise in paraphrasing, rhetorical speaking, and textual analysis. Students will work to clarify the meaning of the language in their own words while exploring imagery, poetic devices, and rhetorical devices that shape the sonnet’s meaning and effect. Through discussion and guided speaking work, they will build confidence in understanding heightened language and delivering it with clarity, intention, and expression.(Grades 6-12)
