Workshop Registration Details

When a visual impairment and a learning disability coexist, many times, one may go unidentified. Typically, that is the presence of a learning disability. This workshop explores the often-overlooked intersection of visual impairments and specific learning disabilities (SLD), emphasizing the importance of comprehensive assessment and tailored educational strategies. Dr. Beth Jones and Dr. Tim Allen will help participants gain an understanding of the most recent guidance from TEA regarding the comorbidity of specific learning disabilities and visual impairments, as well as new developments from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Learners will be exposed to the VI-LD-RTI framework and learn how to apply the model using a student case study. Participants will be presented with recommendations for effective assessment and intervention.

This full-day workshop is designed for evaluation teams comprising diagnosticians, school psychologists, providers of dyslexia instruction (PDIs), and teachers of students with visual impairments (TSVIs). Participants will leave equipped with enhanced knowledge and practical strategies to effectively identify, assess, and support students with visual impairments who may also have specific learning disabilities, thereby promoting their academic success and overall well-being.
