Civil Disobedience: Presented by Teaching American History

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

Presented by Teaching American History: This seminar examines the controversial topic of civil disobedience. Here we will consider whether civil disobedience could be an appropriate response to unjust laws in a liberal democracy. We begin by looking at the foundations of government set forth in the writings of John Locke and the
Declaration of Independence. Our examination of this topic will then turn to two famous opposing sets of ideas on civil disobedience. By comparing
several respective arguments, our aim is to consider whether civil disobedience is compatible with the principles of government as defined by the Declaration of Independence.

Attendees will receive reading materials before the workshop. 8 CPE hours are earned for this workshop. 2 to 3 hours of reading before arrival at the workshop and 5 hours of attendance. CPE hours will be awarded by Teaching American History.

All attendees of this free professional development will receive lunch, a letter of attendance as well as paper and digital copies of the reader. This workshop is open to all Region 7 districts and charters.
