STR Aligned: Phonics Basic Training for Grades 6-8

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

Reading comprehension is the bi-product of decoding and language comprehension. If students cannot access the print from the page of complex texts through the act of decoding, they will have limited to no comprehension of the text. As teachers in grades 6-8 focus on equipping students with the skills to enable them to make meaning from complex texts, there is also a need to equip teachers with the knowledge and application of foundational skills to enable students the ability to decode words, including multisyllabic words and polysemic words to enhance meaning making of texts. This workshop will focus on providing participants with the background of phonics instruction, beginning with the alphabetic principle and extending along the continuum through advanced phonics, including morphology.
