The Progression of Addition and Subtraction

This session focuses on how students’ understanding of addition and subtraction develops over time. Teachers will explore common strategies students use, from early counting to more efficient methods, and learn how to support these strategies through hands-on tasks and discourse. Participants will leave with practical ideas to strengthen student understanding, address misconceptions, and build confidence in addition and subtraction across grade levels.
