Data Driven Writing Instruction

In this hands-on Data-Driven Writing Instruction workshop, participants will learn how to tighten the turnaround time between student writing, feedback, and instruction by using WriteAlign reporting to create purposeful next-day station work and small-group lessons. Teachers will experience the writing process through prompt annotation, evidence selection, thesis development, and constructed response planning before exploring the WriteAlign workflow, including how to review reports, locate individual feedback, identify exemplars and non-exemplars, analyze Tier 1 trends, and group students by skill need rather than score. Participants will connect timely feedback research to classroom practice, analyze student writing samples, and rotate through stations focused on prompt analysis, evidence analysis, and thesis formation. By the end of the workshop, teachers will leave with a practical process for turning WriteAlign data into targeted feedback, responsive writing stations, skill-based groups, and ready-to-use next-day instructional moves that help students improve their writing with greater speed and precision.
