Local Options to Increase Funding: Using the TEA Local Decision Tool to Maximize Revenue

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

Every district leader knows that school funding is complex — but within that complexity lies opportunity. This workshop, developed in partnership with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), will guide participants through TEA’s “Local Decision Tool”, a practical, interactive model designed to help districts identify and evaluate new sources of state funding. You can preview TEA’s Local Decision Tool and resources here: Local School District Revenue Options Toolkit - slide deck, template, and other resources

Participants will explore how local decisions—such as attendance, enrollment, tax rates, instructional models, and teacher incentive programs—directly impact district revenue. The session will connect these financial levers to academic and operational strategies, helping leaders make informed choices that align with their district’s goals.

Through hands-on demonstrations and real-world examples, attendees will learn how to:
Navigate the Local Decision Tool to model district-specific funding scenarios
Identify state allotments and grant programs that can increase revenue
Understand the impact of Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), PREP Allotment, and Additional Days School Year (ADSY)
Explore Career, College, and Military Readiness (CCMR) and CTE funding opportunities
Develop a data-informed funding strategy to support district priorities

Key Takeaways:
Clear understanding of the state funding landscape and how to access available resources
Practical strategies to grow district revenue without increasing local costs
Hands-on experience using TEA’s Local Decision Tool
TEA and ESC 7 support resources for continued implementation

This session is ideal for district and charter leaders who want to strengthen their understanding of Texas school finance, identify new funding opportunities, and align financial decisions with student achievement goals.
