Read Alouds: The Heart of Comprehension--WEBINAR

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

Forty years ago, the National Commission on Reading identified read-alouds as “the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading.” This foundational insight continues to guide effective literacy instruction today.
In this session, we will explore how reading aloud to students significantly enhances literacy comprehension and supports the development of knowledge. Research indicates that storytelling not only engages learners cognitively, but also positively impacts emotional responses, increasing motivation and connection to text.
Through purposeful read-alouds, listening becomes understanding, and understanding becomes background knowledge. Listening comprehension plays a critical role in literacy development, as it builds the foundation upon which reading comprehension is constructed. For all students—across all grade levels—developing strong listening comprehension is essential to accessing, processing, and retaining new information.
