Understanding and Applying Developmentally Appropriate Practices in Early Childhood Education

Participants of this workshop will discuss what is meant by developmentally appropriate practices (DAP). They will explore what is age appropriate, individually appropriate, and culturally and linguistically appropriate for children in early childhood. They will discuss how teachers make decisions about what is developmentally appropriate for young children in their classrooms. Participants will explore the role of the intentional teacher in a developmentally appropriate program as she/he plans challenging and achievable lessons for children. They will also discuss misunderstandings related to developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education.
