Teaching Sustainability to Students through Service Learning

What is your definition of sustainability? If you think it’s just about recycling, there is so much more. Join Dr. Robert Franco, professor of Anthropology and Director of Institutional Effectiveness at Kapi’olani Community College in Hawaii, for an introduction to 17 different ways to look at sustainability, get ideas for teaching your students social responsibility and create service learning opportunities. Research has shown that service learning is a high-impact practice for student learning. But where do you start? Learn how Kapi'olani Community College successfully incorporated service learning and other high impact practices into sustainability efforts in a variety of courses and created community partnerships to engage students and increase persistence. Dr. Franco will share practical advice also provide time for a Q&A session.
