Don't be AfrAId: Leveraging the Power of AI for Ethical Student Use

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

As artificial intelligence becomes more accessible and integrated into everyday academic life, educators face growing questions about navigating its presence in the classroom, particularly in college and dual credit courses. This session, “Don’t be AfrAId,” will provide a practical and ethical framework for understanding AI tools like Grammarly, ChatGPT, and Google NotebookLM, and their impact on student learning, writing, and research.
Join us as we explore how to:
• Demystify AI for faculty and students alike
• Establish clear, ethical boundaries for AI use in coursework
• Integrate AI tools as supports rather than shortcuts
• Create assignments that encourage original thinking and reduce reliance on AI-generated content
• Promote digital literacy and academic integrity in AI-informed classrooms
Whether you're curious, concerned, or cautiously optimistic, this session will offer concrete strategies, examples, and guidelines to help you feel confident addressing AI use with your students. Don’t be afraid—be informed.
