From Policy to Progress: Hearing Directly from Legislators & STC Parenting Students (In-Person)

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

As part of South Texas College's Data-to-Action for Parenting Students at Texas Colleges & Universities grant initiative, this panel discussion aims to foster dialogue on how higher education institutions can develop a data infrastructure on parenting students and provide better support through policy, institutional practices, and community partnerships.

National estimates suggest that parenting students represent approximately 20–25% of students enrolled in higher education. This discussion will bring together Texas legislators who authored parenting student legislation passed in 2023 to discuss the needs that prompted these laws, their intended impact, and how higher education institutions can better support parenting students. Topics will include academic accommodations, course registration, designated parenting student liaisons, and institutional data collection and reporting requirements.

Attendees will also hear firsthand experiences from STC parenting students and have opportunities to engage with legislators, student panelists, and Rio Grande Valley community organizations that support parenting families.

**This registration is for in-person attendance.**
