235985 KEYNOTE SPEAKER: The Landscape of Behavior and Learning: Understanding the Brain for Better Outcomes
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Quad (Concho/Nueces/Pecos/Rio Grande Rooms)
This session will take the vast understanding about how the brain learns and behaves and incorporate it into everyday interactions, instruction, interventions, and the daily routines of our classrooms. The neurological factors that allow the brain to learn to its potential and regulate behavior and emotion are vital to instructional and behavioral practices in our schools and homes. This session will challenge some of the “standard” practices and help create a dialogue to begin changing some of the outdated “mind sets” still found in education today. Participants will come away with various activities and strategies that can easily be taken back to their schools (or homes) and modified for any age or level. Dr. Layne Pethick is an educational specialist from Region 10 which is located in Richardson. Layne is a Regional Consultant for autism and behavior. He is currently ABD and has a Master’s degree in Special Education with concentration in ASD and E/BD, along with degrees in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, and Reading. Layne has experience as a general and special education teacher, school administrator, district trainer, program director, and in higher education as a professor of special education, assessment, early childhood and teacher education. He had several articles published and has presented at local, state, national, and international conferences.
