TEA provides districts and educators with direct access to an optional set of high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) designed especially for Texas. * Core products: full sets of materials designed to cover 100% of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in a grade level/band * Open education resources (OER): state-developed digital materials that are freely available forever to Texas school districts and educators The Amplify Texas Elementary Literacy Program is specifically designed for Texas students and is built on the Science of Reading. The program is designed to meet 100% of standards, but it includes specific content for K–2 skills that may be used separately as a supplement to any core curriculum. The program is comprised of skills units specifically focused in K–2 and knowledge domains for grades K–5 Eureka Math TEKS Edition is aligned with TEKS standards for grades K-5. Students build an enduring understanding of mathematics topics through linked modules at every grade level with a special focus on the why and how behind the numbers. Students develop solid conceptual understanding, practice procedural skills and fluency exercises, and apply what they learn in real-world scenarios using consistent models across grade levels. “The opposite of addiction isn’t sobriety; it’s connection.” Vaping, the opioid crisis, our rural experience of substance use – all of these societal challenges involve individual struggles with problematic addiction; with this issue it’s easy to lose sight of the trees through the forest. When it comes to helping someone overcome addiction, what you often think works well may not work at all, and what works isn’t an easy road. TSLAT Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Panel is happening across the state. Here at Region 15, we will go over Prompting and how to get free resources for trainings and materials. Prompting is a EBP that we use not only in our classrooms, but also in our everyday lives. Prompting is used to increase the likelihood that a learner will provide a desired response and the prompts assists them in being successful with opportunities as they learn the new skill. This Panel will have representatives from TSLAT, representatives from Region 15, and teacher representative that is putting these practices in the classroom. The mission for this panel is to reach everyone, but specifically the small and rural communities who might not have access to live trainings due to traveling or teacher shortage, or do not have the resources in their community. Please join us to hear more about free resources and to ask any questions that you might have.

Virtual, full-day workshop: We hear that word a lot these days – “trauma.” But, what is trauma? How does it impact student development and learning? But, most importantly – what should educators do to help students impacted by trauma in order to help them feel calm under pressure, safe at school, and engaged in learning? This practical workshop will explore these questions and more; in addition, participants are encouraged to bring burning questions of their own!

A series of four zoom sessions presented by Marie Riley. This session is geared to develop the knowledge and skills of teachers in Domain 1: Planning and Preparation and Domain 2: Classroom Environment of Charlotte Danielson's Framework and PDAS Domain I: Active, Successful Student Participation in the Learning Process, Domain II: Learner-Centered Instruction, Domain III: Evaluation and Feedback on Student Progress, Domain IV: Management of Student Discipline, Instructional Strategies, Time and Materials, Domain V: Professional Communication. In this session participants will transform their classroom into a high-performing learning system where students become self-directed, independent thinkers, problem-solvers and successful! This includes setting classroom direction and utilizing frequent cycles of improvement through Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA’s). Through PDSA’s students set time-bound measurable learning targets, identify strategies to successfully meet the targets, study the results that measure the target, and act on the results. Participants will learn how to successfully use classroom data, individual student data and student-led conferences that can be utilized during parent meetings and/or ARD meetings. This system is the most efficient and effective way to improve classroom learning results. Participants will see actual classroom examples of the components of Classroom Continuous Improvement and develop a draft deployment plan for implementation. The scientific-based research used in this session is from Malcolm Baldrige Education Criteria for Performance Excellence which focused on the best current research in what it takes to make schools and classrooms quality learning places for ALL students.

Many a student case consult at ESC 15 begins with the phrase, “I’ve got a student, and (s)he is telling us (s)he’s suicidal…what do we do?” We’ll answer that question and more in this workshop! We cover the gamut with this one – proactive measures to prevent suicide; best practices and your legal responsibilities related to assessment, safety planning, and referral; resources available across Region 15 to help struggling students; and what to do in the wake of a suicide that impacts your district (postvention).

As a part of a statewide TEA initiative, a series of trainings have been created to support Counselors. Module Two: Effective Advising for career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs -Ensuring Access and Equity of College, Career, and MIiitary Readiness (CCMR) will help prepare counselors for their crucial roles in supporting students' postsecondary success. Participants will identify potential barriers that limit access to CTE programs and review advising strategies and resources to ensure accessible and equitable CTE programs. Participants will review the Perkins V definitions for special populations and explore success outcomes from strong CTE programs, such as college and career readiness, employability skills, and mental health wellness. At the end of this module, participants will recognize potential barriers to accessible and equitable CTE programs and devise plans to eliminate existing barriers.
