Welcome to A Step Toward IEP Quality and Rigor:?A Rubric to Guide Development of Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP), Goals/Objectives, and Progress Monitoring Methods of the Individualized Education Program?for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities. In Texas, many excellent trainings and guidance documents on the development of the Individualized Education Program already exist. This training is different. These three core components greatly impact student involvement, access, and progress in the general education curriculum. Learning Objectives: Understand?critical components of the IEP including: PLAAFP, Goals/Objectives, and Progress Monitoring Methods? Apply?the Quality & Rigor Rubric to the IEP’s?PLAAFP, Goals/Objectives,?and Progress Monitoring sections? Create?PLAAFPs, Goals/Objectives, and Progress Monitoring Methods?that are rigorous and of the highest quality

Once a month for an informative lunch and learn on the latest topics in mental health affecting our schools. December's topic will cover grief. The Holidays bring, for many, feelings of excitement, joy and togetherness. But they can also bring feelings of sadness, grief, and loss - grief around a loved one who passed away no longer being present, feelings of loss around the idea of "family" or traditions, feelings of confusion, or comparison with others celebrating the holidays, and even just a sense of lost time as the busy-ness of holidays overwhelms us! Join the Texas BHPPs for a one-hour Lunch & Learn where we define different kinds of grief, and talk about supporting our students, their families, and supporting ourselves (counselors, social workers, educators, school leaders, school staff) around the holidays

During monthly PLCs, paraprofessionals will participate in short, focused training sessions designed to strengthen their use of evidence-based practices (EBPs) observed in classrooms. Each session will connect directly to the “look-for” tool used during coaching observations, ensuring training is relevant and practical. This process ensures training is ongoing, practical, and aligned to classroom needs. Social-emotional and behavioral assessment for children and adolescents is a complex process, and the impact of assessment extends beyond the score. Linking assessment data to meaningful intervention can be a challenge. This session seeks to support practitioners in maximizing the benefit of assessment and enhancing progress with interventions linked to assessment data. This presentation will provide background and discussion on the importance of social-emotional and behavioral assessment for young people, a platform for conceptualizing the scope of these evaluations and the value of intervention on outcomes. Participants will review a variety of formal assessment measures designed to evaluate social-emotional and behavioral features (including the Risk Inventory and Strengths Evaluation, Piers-Harris Self-Concept Scale, Third Edition, and others) as well as how these tools can be used to support interventions and treatment plans. Participants will leave with a knowledge of an array of social-emotional and behavioral assessment tools that can be used across a variety of populations as well as interventions and accommodations that can be generated based on assessment. Ashley Arnold with WPS will be presenting the morning session. The afternoon three-hour session will allow for School Psychologists and Related Service Providers to Collaborate over Legislative Changes and Functional Behavioral Assessments.

By embedding EBP training into the monthly PLC cycle, paraprofessionals build confidence, improve consistency, and strengthen their ability to foster independence and success for students in inclusive settings.

This hands-on session guides districts in analyzing student growth measures for content areas not using STAAR and aligning them with teacher observation data from the previous school year. Participants will engage in a collaborative review of local data and compare trends against TEA’s Data Validation Tool (as outlined in the 2025–2026 TIA Guidebook). The goal is to evaluate whether teacher effectiveness ratings based on classroom observations are consistent when compared to student growth outcomes—two pillars of a valid Local Designation System. Key Objectives: • Examine actual district data from one non-STAAR student growth measure • Analyze alignment between T-TESS or other local observation ratings and student outcomes • Identify discrepancies that may trigger data validation issues from TEA • Use the TIA Data Validation Tool as a lens for continuous improvement
