We will discuss the Expanded Core Curriculum, the reasons for teaching it, and the requirement to address it in schools. Participants will have the opportunity to gain a new perspective while looking through different vision simulators, learning about O&M services, techniques, and white canes. Low Vision and FM Systems will be discussed, and participants will have hands on experience on how our students who are visually impaired or deaf and hard of hearing access their information through these devices. Participants will look at the devices and how they are used for accessing information at near and distance and how to access information through other channels when one is impaired. Participants will learn how to interact and learn some accommodations for VI or DHH students in their classroom.

Individuals that are highly visual learners benefit from breaking down a skill into small steps, practicing the skill, video recording the skill, and then watching themselves or others perform the skill in a movie. In this session, you will learn how to become a film maker using tools such as your phone, camera, or tablet to create your own movie clips. The videos can be used for several purposes for the learner, the instructor/therapist, and the parent as a teaching and assessment tool.
