This session will cover an introduction to the RLA Research Based Instructional Strategies (RBIS) and how they work collectively to build a solid foundation for reading instruction based on the Science of Reading. This training begins the exploration of High-Quality Instructional Materials.

· RBIS 1: Foundation Skills

Explicit, systematic practice with Literacy Foundational Skills.

· RBIS 2: Text Complexity

Regular practice with grade-level, complex text, and its academic language.

· RBIS 3: Knowledge Coherence

Building knowledge and vocabulary through text in all content areas.

· RBIS 4: Text Based Responses

Reading, writing, and speaking grounded in evidence from text, both literary and informational.
