ADVISING FOR SUCCESS: UPDATING STRATEGIES TO SUPPORT SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS ON THE PATH TO GRADUATION

If you wear the hat of Secondary Special Education Teacher, CTE teacher, Secondary counselor, Secondary Diagnostician/ARD Facilitator, Secondary Administrator, come join us to support your special education students. Based on updates to Commissioner's Rules in the summer of 2024, transition services for special education students begins before age 14. These updates influence our advising processes for special education students. This session will establish understanding of graduation plans (19 TAC Chapter 74, subchapter B) that were updated August 2024. We will teach you how to appropriately advise SPED students or ARD committees based on the student’s data needed for PLAAFP development. Areas of support will include accommodations/modifications, resources for providing appropriate services to students, the legal requirements for special education, and expectations/requirements upon an audit.
