THROUGH THE LENS OF CTE: BUILDING BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE AND ACADEMIC VOCABULARY

This ZOOM session is geared to develop the knowledge and skills of teachers in Domain 1: Planning and Preparation Domain 2: Instruction and developing highly effective teachers thus supporting measures to qualify for Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA). In this powerful session, participants will be equipped with the tools they need to enhance background knowledge and build academic vocabulary through a specific research-based step-by-step process. This process will encourage students to learn critical academic vocabulary using linguistic and nonlinguistic means and games and activities that further encourage the refinement and deepening of their understanding. This session is hands-on and engaging. Participants will also assess themselves in each of the areas covered in the training: Knowledge of Misconceptions Common in the Discipline, Assessing Background Knowledge, Activating Background Knowledge, Building Background Knowledge, and Building Academic Vocabulary. Teachers will leave with numerous strategies to enhance each of the areas covered in this session.
