FROM IEP TO EMPLOYMENT: PREPARING STUDENTS FOR WORKPLACE SUCCESS THROUGH AUTHENTIC WORK BASED LEARNING

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

Successful employment starts with teaching the foundational skills students need to thrive in the workplace, including communication, self-advocacy, independence, professionalism, and problem-solving. This workshop explores practical strategies for helping transition-aged and 18+ students develop these essential employability skills while preparing for life beyond high school.

Participants will discover ways to incorporate authentic work-based learning into the classroom, including simple, school-based businesses that provide meaningful, hands-on work experiences. This session will also explore workplace expectations, ADA awareness, and practical strategies that help students transition successfully from school to employment.

This workshop will be presented by Joette Hardin, Program Coordinator II, Work-Based Project Lead with the Texas A&M Center on Disability and Development.
