FROM IEP TO INDUSTRY: CREATING AUTHENTIC SCHOOL BASED ENTERPRISES

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

The Work-Based Learning Program through Texas A&M’s Center on Disability and Development, and in partnership with TWC, provides $10,000 in startup funding, plus training and technical support to help schools develop or expand authentic, integrated school-based enterprises. School-based enterprises provide opportunities for students to develop transferable skills and gain meaningful work experience. Projects also raise families’ expectations for paid employment and provide opportunities to gain paid work experience, both of which are strong predictors of postsecondary success.
Drawing from the experiences of supporting the current 132 work-based learning sites across the state of Texas, this workshop will provide strategies for developing authentic, sustainable school based enterprises that prepare students to join the local workforce. From developing a business model and conducting market research to building community partnerships, monitoring student progress, and ensuring sustainability, this workshop will walk participants through all phases of program design and implementation. Participants will receive a Work-Based Learning Program Manual, along with data collection and fidelity monitoring tools.
