Do you work with students who frequently avoid tasks, refuse instructions, or attempt to escape challenging situations? This interactive workshop is designed to equip educators with practical strategies to effectively address and manage escape and avoidance behaviors. Participants will learn to identify the underlying causes of these behaviors, explore proactive techniques to prevent them, and practice evidence-based interventions to foster engagement and cooperation. Topics include functional behavior assessment (FBA), Antecedent-Based Interventions, reinforcement strategies, and effective response methods to reduce escape and avoidance behaviors. Through real-world examples, attendees will gain the confidence to create positive, individualized behavior plans that empower individuals to succeed in challenging situations.

This interactive workshop is designed to equip educators and support staff with effective strategies to teach and support communication for students with disabilities. Participants will explore the foundations of communication development, with a focus on meeting the diverse needs of students who may be nonverbal, minimally verbal, or have complex communication needs. Key topics include: understanding the communication needs of students with various disabilities, introduction to Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), including low-tech and high-tech options, creating inclusive environments that promote communication, collaborating with speech-language pathologists and families, integrating AAC into daily instruction and routines, and teaching functional communication and supporting self-advocacy. Participants will leave with practical tools and resources to foster meaningful communication and promote student engagement, independence, and participation across settings.

Must complete both days to fulfill Title 1, Part A requirements.
