Delving Deeper into Writing: Handwriting and Written Composition within Reading by Design

By the end of this full-day training, participants will be able to:
• Explain the role of handwriting in reading, spelling, and written expression for students with dyslexia.
• Implement explicit manuscript and cursive handwriting instruction within Reading by Design lessons.
• Apply the WOW procedure to promote handwriting automaticity and legibility.
• Individualize handwriting instruction and interventions based on student needs.
• Describe the developmental phases of the writing process.
• Explain the Simple View of Writing and its instructional implications.
• Implement instructional strategies that support transcription, text generation, working memory, and executive functioning.
• Strengthen written composition through explicit grammar and sentence construction instruction.
• Integrate multisensory scaffolds to enhance written expression within Reading by Design lessons.
