The Strength from Within
9:15 AM - 10:20 AM
C112 (Downstairs)
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and self-care are crucial for overall well-being and success in various aspects of life. It helps students improve their academic performance by enhancing their ability to manage emotions, set goals, and develop positive relationships. Working on mental health reduces stress, anxiety, and depression among students, and in the process promoting a healthier school environment. SEL teaches essential life skills such as empathy, self-awareness, and responsible decision-making.
Self-care practices like regular exercise, healthy eating, and adequate sleep are vital for maintaining physical health. Activities such as mindfulness, relaxation, and hobbies help reduce stress and improve mental health. Self-care allows individuals to process emotions, build resilience, and maintain a positive outlook.
Taking time for self-care can enhance focus, creativity, and overall productivity.
Both SEL and self-care are integral to fostering a balanced, healthy, and successful life.

Spray it don't say it
9:15 AM - 10:30 AM
A110 (Downstairs)
Students often ask "when will I use this?" because we simply give answers when we teach. By fostering creativity in the classroom, students will become curious and more motivated to connect with the material. There's a difference between knowing the path, and walking the path. We try to tell the students where the path goes, but unless we let them walk it, they won't have the experience and won't retain the knowledge. As teachers we must plan our lessons and create deep questions throughout the content that will allow students to figure out the reasons for the answer.

The Strength from Within
10:30 AM - 11:45 AM

A house divided cannot stand
1:00 PM - 2:10 PM
A110 (Downstairs)
Students have an attention span of about 15 minutes on a good day. Our class periods are 90 minutes long. Simple division would suggest we have about 6 activities or sections of our class. This may not require re-inventing the wheel and breaking down each lesson plan further; rather, we should practice reading the room and learning how to adapt our lessons to our students and the attention spans they have. Try to get off topic at least once, especially if it's from a question from a student. Spin off on a tangent if it's a real world application of the lesson. Double check your lessons and content to help research connections in advance.

Mentor Sentences are strong examples taken from literature. They ensure that students gain a better understanding of grammar, style, and writing methods in a context that is simplified, yet rigorous. When students examine these sentences closely, they begin to see how the authors use structure, punctuation, and word choice to convey their points. Students will be able to use these same patterns in their writing, improving their skills and becoming more confident writers. So, rather than teaching grammar or vocabulary in isolation; mentor sentences blend it into the writing process, connecting it to what students are reading and creating!

A house divided cannot stand
2:20 PM - 3:30 PM
A110 (Downstairs)
Students have an attention span of about 15 minutes on a good day. Our class periods are 90 minutes long. Simple division would suggest we have about 6 activities or sections of our class. This may not require re-inventing the wheel and breaking down each lesson plan further; rather, we should practice reading the room and learning how to adapt our lessons to our students and the attention spans they have. Try to get off topic at least once, especially if it's from a question from a student. Spin off on a tangent if it's a real world application of the lesson. Double check your lessons and content to help research connections in advance.

“The Write Mentor”
2:20 PM - 3:30 PM
C109 (Downstairs)
Mentor Sentences are strong examples taken from literature. They ensure that students gain a better understanding of grammar, style, and writing methods in a context that is simplified, yet rigorous. When students examine these sentences closely, they begin to see how the authors use structure, punctuation, and word choice to convey their points. Students will be able to use these same patterns in their writing, improving their skills and becoming more confident writers. So, rather than teaching grammar or vocabulary in isolation; mentor sentences blend it into the writing process, connecting it to what students are reading and creating!
