Content Based Language Instruction (CBLI): Aligning Instruction to new 2026-2027 ELPS

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

"Strong writing skills are essential for student success on the STAAR exam, particularly when responding to Short Constructed Responses (SCR) and Extended Constructed Responses (ECR). This hands-on session will equip teachers with practical strategies to strengthen academic writing in English I and II classrooms and to support multilingual learners in producing clear, organized, and evidence-based responses. Participants will explore structured writing routines, sentence-expansion strategies, and scaffolds to help students move from simple responses to fully developed academic writing. Teachers will also review the most frequently missed TEKS on STAAR and learn how to provide targeted instructional supports to help students master these expectations.

Throughout the session, teachers will work with a student writing workbook, a teacher answer key, and scaffolded sentence stems aligned with proficiency levels, providing ready-to-use tools they can immediately implement in their classrooms. While designed for English I and II, the instructional strategies shared can also support middle school students, as the framework for building strong academic responses remains the same across grade levels.
