Texas law requires that any person suspecting that a child has been abused or neglected must immediately make a report. Professionals must make a report no later than the 48th hour after first suspecting a child has been abused or neglected or is a victim of an offense under Section 21.11, Penal Code. A professional may not delegate to or rely on another person to make the report (Texas Family Code, Section 261.101). Professionals are not required to follow up their oral reports with a written report as they were in the past. Professionals include teachers, nurses, doctors, day-care employees and others who are either licensed by the state or work in a facility licensed or operated by the state and who have direct contact with children in the course of their job (Texas Family Code, Section 261.101).

333973 Vaping/Fentanyl Awareness
8:30 AM - 10:00 AM
Room F219
Fentanyl use among teens is on the rise. Unfortunately, so is the risk of overdose. According to the CDC, Fentanyl overdoses involving teens has tripled in the last two years. Our staff needs to be prepared if such event ever impacts our campus. It is important that we are equipped with the knowledge of being able to identify when a student is in crisis. If a student overdoses on Fentanyl, there are ways to save the student’s life and every minute counts. New fentanyl-related legislation was passed during the 88th Texas Legislature to raise awareness of fentanyl poisonings and to promote prevention efforts. Specifically, students and families need to know that other drugs may contain a deadly level of fentanyl. You cannot see, taste, or smell it. It is almost impossible to tell if another drug is laced with fentanyl unless tested with a fentanyl testing strip. “One Pill Kills” is set up across the state to educate Texans on how to prevent, recognize, and reverse fentanyl poisonings.

333989 Vaping/Fentanyl Awareness

333985 Vaping/Fentanyl Awareness
1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
