Special Education Self-Assessment 2020-2021
As part of the Differentiated Monitoring and Support System, which monitors special education programs in the State of Texas, all Local Education Agencies (LEAs) will complete a Self-Assessment of their special education program beginning Spring 2021. The purpose of the Self-Assessment is to assist LEA leadership teams in evaluating data to identify areas of strength and areas of need in order to improve its special education program. This proactive approach will address special education compliance and improving student performance. Each LEA will complete the Self-Assessment annually as part of the Texas commitment to continuous improvement that focuses on improving outcomes for students with disabilities.
In this training, participants will gain an understanding of the required elements of the Differentiated Monitoring and Support System, including the Special Education Self-Assessment. Emphasis will be placed on completing the self-assessment evaluative rubric and utilizing the results to identify and prioritize areas for improvement. Based on the prioritized areas for improvement, the leadership team will develop a Strategic Support Plan (SSP).
