Based on the new Nancy Motley publication from Seidlitz Education, "Small Moves, Big Gains" Training offers educators a straightforward path toward increasing student outcomes. The small moves in this training are brief, actionable, and require little to no preparation. Each one is a high-yield strategy that benefits all types of learners and can be applied across content areas. "Small Moves, Big Gains" gives practical steps for turning the moves into automatic habits – showing teachers to do them, why they are significant, and possible variations.

Learn how to develop students' content and academic language through comprehensible input and quality opportunities for output. These two components of classroom instruction work to push learning forward and move students from passive participants to active meaning-makers. With the redesign of STAAR, now more than ever, students need to understand academic language, read informational passages, and respond in writing to these passages. This workshop will provide methods, resources, and technology tools that you can immediately incorporate into your lesson planning to increase student understanding.

Analyzing the author's purpose and craft is more than just PIE (persuade, inform, entertain). The standards require students to move beyond the surface and use critical inquiry to analyze authors' choices and how they influence and communicate meaning within a variety of texts. In this session, you will gain a deep understanding of student expectations related to the author's purpose and craft and distinguish between surface-level activities and activities that support the critical analysis of these expectations.

Universal Intervention (Tier 1) occurs in the general education classroom and is designed to support all students in their ability to access good instruction at grade level. Interventions and supports received during the core instructional minutes (universal time for all) meet the needs of about 80% of a school’s population for both academics and behavior. For students who may need additional intervention and support above the regular core instructional minutes, a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework is implemented to problem-solve, design, and implement individualized learning plans to close identified skill gaps. Join us as we explore the why of MTSS. Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) fall under the MTSS umbrella and TEA's expectation of the framework. This introductory level will dive deep into processes of the systematic framework of academic and behavioral interventions necessary for student progress. TSHA credit approved. Attendees will be able to participate in this webinar in their district via the Zoom link provided in the registration confirmation email.

When children write, they acquire cognitive strategies for attending, monitoring, searching, evaluating, and self-correcting their actions. We will discuss how the self-regulated writer understands how to use specific strategies for planning, generating, organizing, and revising the writing process.

You must have attended Cycle 1 to attend Cycle 2: In this two-day session, campus leadership teams will learn two leadership protocols from Paul Bambrick-Santoyo's work in Leverage Leadership 2.0. in distinct Cycles. . Cycle 2 will focus on Formative Assessment Protocols and Leader Monitoring of Formative Assessment. TIL Lesson Planning trains leaders how to guide their teachers to build effective daily lesson plans that will drive student learning, as well as how to monitor that planning to see which parts are working and which aren’t, and how to coach teachers to master the skills they need to make their planning consistently effective. TIL Formative Assessment trains leaders on how to guide their teachers to craft rigorous and aligned daily and weekly assessments that will support analysis of student mastery and gaps, and how to coach their teachers to master the skills of assessment writing and analysis to ensure their continuous improvement in designing formative assessments. In this hands-on, minds-on session, leaders will engage with and practice both protocols at a level that will facilitate seamless implementation at the campus level. Participants will receive copies of both Get Better Faster and Leverage Leadership 2.0 to facilitate deeper D.D.I. implementation within their districts. Teams will receive monthly implementation support and coaching after their initial face-to-face engagement. Leadership teams should include a team of three (principal manager, principal, and another campus leader.) Teams registering for Cycle 1 will be automatically registered for Cycle 2 that occurs in November.

Spelling is important for the role it plays in developing better, fluent writers, and articulate speakers. It is important because the word-specific knowledge that grows out of good spelling instruction stays with a person all of his or her life and can be used in whatever he or she does. It is important because we store words in our brains in spelling. It is important to teach words. Spelling matters!
