In the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), schools are required to have a process for identifying students in need of additional intervention and support to access Universal core instruction. When used as intended, evidence-based intervention and support strategies are provided within the regular classroom and to individual students, including those with disabilities, to reduce academic and behavioral gaps. Response to Intervention (RtI) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) require consistent progress monitoring to make data-driven decisions. This workshop will identify non-negotiable components of the MTSS process per TEA Statewide Guidelines. We will also identify the common trends that hinder the work getting done. *This workshop is primarily for East Texas Baptist University.

In the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), schools are required to have a process for identifying students in need of additional intervention and support to access Universal core instruction. When used as intended, the three-tiered process uses individual student data to determine what evidence-based intervention and support strategies are needed to fill in academic and behavioral gaps for students at risk, including those with disabilities. Response to Intervention (RtI) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) fall under the umbrella of MTSS. This workshop will look at TEA's Statewide Initiative for implementing an effective student support system. We will target the nonnegotiable components of a three-tiered framework and the common trends hindering the work. This workshop is primarily for Henderson ISD.

The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS) is a research-based tool used to identify foundational skills needed by students to acquire academic skills. Informative PLAAFPS and meaningful goals result from this detailed information. The assessment also determines skill deficits that may be addressed in small groups, stations, and during 1-1 time with teachers and can be used as a curriculum supplement to standards.

The recently adopted science TEKS affect the middle school curriculum both in concepts (addition and removal) and thinking. One of the biggest changes to the new TEKS is the move to scientific and engineering practices. These standards are designed to help students make connections between science and engineering, and engage in the practice of investigating and designing in order to answer questions and solve problems. During this TWO-DAY workshop, we will learn about the new TEKS and walk through several experiences focusing on designing labs and solutions, analyzing and interpreting data, and developing evidence-based explanations. You will leave with resources that target developing these scientific and engineering thinking skills throughout the school year. Please also register for the day two workshop in the spring of 2024.

Students can use notebooks to pose questions, write observations, work through puzzling data, or think through new ideas. Come and see some samples from actual student notebooks and explore lessons, instructional routines, and assessment techniques that pair well with science notebooks. This workshop will have a working lunch because of the earlier release time. ******This workshop is located in Lufkin (701 N 1st St, Lufkin, TX 75901).
