Ignite the Spark: Real-World Engineering in the Classroom

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

What happens when real-world engineering meets the high school classroom? This engaging session will showcase practical strategies for connecting students to engineering concepts and the skilled trades that support them. Drawing on authentic industry experience, the session highlights how hands-on projects and industry alignment can inspire students to see futures they may have never considered. Participants will walk away with ideas and resources to bring engineering practices into their classrooms and ignite curiosity, innovation, and opportunity for every student.

Led by Master Teacher: Ronnie Babcock

Ronnie Babcock teaches grades 9–12 at Eustace High School (Eustace ISD) and brings over 16 years of classroom experience along with over 20 years working in the engineering field. He holds a B.A. in Industrial Studies, an M.Ed. in Educational Technology Leadership, and training in NCTI Fiber/Communications Engineering. Transitioning from industry to education allowed him to reignite his passion for engineering and share it with students.

Ronnie finds daily inspiration in watching students’ eyes light up as they grasp new concepts, then connect theory to practice through hands-on projects. The excitement they carry forward—whether explaining their work to others or choosing to pursue engineering at the next level—drives his commitment to making every class an opportunity to change lives.

He served as a member of the TEKS review committee, helping to write new standards for Civil Engineering and revise two existing engineering courses. Outside the classroom, Ronnie enjoys hiking, woodworking, metalworking, tractor restoration, fly fishing, golfing, and cooking on his Blackstone griddle He's currently training for a through-hike of the Appalachian Trail and recently became a first-time grandfather. His personal philosophy is reflected in a favorite J.R.R. Tolkien quote: “All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.”
