5 Cs of Summarizing

Summarizing is one of the most challenging to teach and learn. This intervention is a five-step process for writing a summary of an article or story. Readers of all ages and ability levels regularly resist investing the time and cognitive effort that is essential, no matter how smart we are, to struggle with extracting and constructing meaning from text. These five steps are: comprehend, chunk, compact ,conceptualize, and connect. Summarizing is one of the most useful strategies you will ever learn.
