187160 Library Conference -The Rose City Book Battle: Connecting Students to New Literature and Each Other
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Online Webinar
Ashten Ordmandy & Jessi Smyth, Tyler ISD - This past year, our district's MTS team created and implemented a district-wide competition called the Rose City Book Battle. In this battle, students from 3rd-8th grade read eight books from a district-created book list centered on the theme of "Courage." Students competed against each other (virtually this year due to COVID) to show off their knowledge of the titles and fight for the crown of "Rose City Book Battle Champion." This event provided students with unique opportunities to meet children their age on other campuses in our city, practice reading skills, and read books from new genres and formats that they may have never tried on their own.
