Hands On Math Using Beads - Grades K-5

Using math manipulatives such as the Rekenrek and Beaded Number line allows Mathematicians to build an understanding of elementary concepts. During the first part of the morning, we will explore concepts such as developing early number sense, place value, and addition and subtraction. Using math manipulatives such as the Beaded Number line allows Mathematicians to build an understanding of difficult math concepts. Next, we will explore concepts such as developing rounding, operations on whole numbers, decimals, and more! Each activity is designed to help students visualize quantities and number relationships in a concrete way before transitioning to the open number line and abstract strategies. This session is for developing conceptual understanding by moving through the concrete-representational-abstract cycle of engagement. Using beads can be helpful for supporting struggling learners and RTI in upper elementary. Come experience hands-on math using beads as there will be times to make examples for your classroom.
