USABA Goalball Coaches Training with Jake Czechowski (22-23)

This workshop is open to participants who wish to learn how to coach the sport of Goalball.
Goalball is a team sport developed for individuals with a visual impairment. Teams of 3 people try to throw a ball (with bells embedded inside) into the opponent’s goal. This sport requires ear-hand coordination and athletes are blindfolded to ensure that no vision is utilized during the match. Games are played indoors (usually on a gym floor) and consist of 12-minute halves with a 3-minute half-time.
Many young individuals who are visually impaired or blind typically do not have opportunities to be involved in team sports and physical activity. One of the best benefits of goalball is that it promotes teamwork and cooperation among teammates as well as promoting awareness within the community of what individuals who are visually impaired can do.
Other benefits:
1. Participation in an aggressive sport that combines power, strategy, and quickness
2. Increased cardiovascular endurance, upper body strength, mobility skills, and agility
3. Improved auditory awareness and tracking
Instruction/participation in the sport of Goalball also supports instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) areas of Recreation and Leisure, Social Interaction, Sensory Efficiency, and Orientation and Mobility.
Jake Czechowski (Head Coach, U.S. Women’s National Goalball Team/Head Coach, U.S. Resident Goalball Training Program/U.S. Association of Blind Athletes-USABA) will be here to train participants who wish to learn how to coach the sport of Goalball.
Lunch will be provided for participants.
This training is eligible for ACVREP credit.
